🌍 Country Overview

Georgia lies at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia in the Caucasus region. With a population of around 3.9 million as of 2024, it is a small but strategically located country.

Historically, Georgia declared independence in 1918, and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union it became an independent republic in 1991. It has rich historical and cultural heritage, and in recent years aims to integrate more with European institutions.

The economy is relatively open, with tourism, agriculture, wine production, and service sectors growing. Education and human capital investment are important for the country’s development path.

🎓 Education System & Government Support

  • The general education system is structured in multiple levels: early childhood/preschool, primary, basic, secondary and higher education.

  • Recent data: at the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year, there were around 177.8 thousand students enrolled in higher education institutions (state + private) in Georgia.

  • General education pupils: at the start of 2022–23 academic year, around 633.3 thousand pupils in general education institutions.

  • The country is increasingly working on reforms, quality assurance, and aligning higher education with European standards (ECTS etc.).

  • For student recruitment/education fairs the implication is: Georgia offers a growing and reforming education market with young people, increasing connectivity, and potential for international education outreach.

✈️ Study Abroad Trends & Student Recruitment Opportunities

  • Georgia itself is increasingly becoming an international education player: the number of foreign students in Georgian higher education is growing — for example, one source notes that Indian students alone number over 20,000.

  • Although detailed numbers for Georgian outbound students (studying abroad from Georgia) are less cited here, for your purpose (institutions recruiting into your fair) the key point is: Georgian students are open to international study, and the local higher education ecosystem is supportive.

  • For recruitment fairs: target Tbilisi (major hub), international-minded schools and institutions, and consider digital outreach since internet penetration is high.

  • Visiting international high schools (English-medium) and working with local student recruitment agents will be valuable.

🌐 Internet & Digital Access

  • Georgia has high connectivity in major urban areas; digital access among youth is strong and growing.

  • This means that social media campaigns, digital advertising (Instagram, TikTok etc.) and online engagement will work well for recruiting Georgian students.

  • When planning fairs and promotional content, make sure material is bilingual (English + Georgian) or at least comfortable for English-speaking Georgian students.

🛂 Visa & Travel Information

  • Students coming to Georgia for study and also outbound students from Georgia will need to check relevant visa rules.

  • When organising fairs in Georgia (hosting abroad/incoming) ensure you check travel, accommodation, local logistics (Tbilisi has international airport, major hotels, meeting venues).

  • Local travel around Georgia (for outreach to schools outside Tbilisi) may require planning for transport and lodging in secondary cities.
